Fusion Artist Karen Russo will be exhibiting select pieces from her “Salt of the Earth” body of work she started during the Covdi-19 pandemic. The two-person exhibition titled “Nature’s Alchemy” will be held at the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay, Oregon.
Karen is a figurative sculptor who lives and works in the lush green foothills of western Oregon. She chooses clay as her primary medium because of its malleability, capacity for transformation, and direct connection to the earth.
In 2020, Karen began a body of work that she’s titled, “Salt of the Earth”. In these sculptures the figure becomes the landscape. It is an ongoing series that is both deeply personal, and outwardly celebrates the place Karen calls home.
According to Karen, “Over two years into the pandemic and I am finally emerging, albeit tentatively into a more social existence. It is far too easy for me to hibernate in the forest and immerse myself in studio and garden. I have continued working with “Salt of the Earth”. These grandmothers emerge from clay and guide me. They are my wisdom. And remind me of how precious is the land that I call home.”
Karen would like to invite you to the opening of “Nature’s Alchemy” – a two-person exhibit featuring her ceramic sculpture and Jason Greene’s paintings.
