Artist Statement

My interest in art began in 1950 when my mother and I attended painting classes at the University of Washington. I was very young, but have vivid memories of all the students painting. Later my junior high teacher, Mr. Schults, stressed wood carving. I carved an otter out of clear fir wood and came in second place after Greg Becon who turned in a Siamese Cat. Later in 1968, I entered the University of Oregon’s architecture program where color rendering was very important.

In 1973 I graduated and began as a landscape architect and park designer for the Forest Service. During this time, I began to draw and paint various scenes from memories that began during my early years while wandering along the river banks, beaches, forests, and trails of Pacific Northwest.

During the last ten years, my works have been shown in galleries and lately entering paintings to online galleries has added a new chapter to my painting endeavors.
