Artist Biography

Linda McCord is best known for her figurative work in watercolor and acrylic paintings. She has deviated recently to paintings focused on reflections. About her new series titled Car Show, she says, “Cars have very little to do with my paintings, they are simply vehicles for what is portrayed on their surface.” With the emphasis on the sheen of the cars, the detail in the motor parts, and the distorted reflections, her work has been described as abstract realism. Linda McCord is a signature member of International Society of Acrylic Painters, Northwest Watercolor Society, California Watercolor Association and Georgia Watercolor Society. McCord has taken numerous international awards. Her paintings have been published in several books: Creating Exceptional Color in Acrylic by Lexi Sundell, Painting in Acrylic, the Indispensable guide by Lorena Kloosterboer, The Complete Guide to Materials and Techniques, edited by Caroline West.

Artist Statement

I had hit a dry spell with my art which happens occasionally. It is when I have run out of ideas to paint. I ran across some photographs I took at a car show in 2011 or 2012, and there it was, that old excitement about painting again! Creativity changes with time, and although the photographs did not appeal to me when I took them, they were perfect for what I was looking for now. As I did the drawings for the paintings, I discovered all kinds of little surprises in the reflections that I did not notice at first glance. I hope the viewer is drawn in to take a closer look at all the smaller elements and my discoveries as I created these.
