Her work is driven by a deep love and concern for animal welfare, as well as the importance of kindness and empathy towards all living beings. Her art takes many forms, including sculpture, painting, sketching, and digital art, and draws inspiration from personal and collective memories, as well as the natural world and the beauty that surrounds us. Kym believes it is crucial that we take the time to stop, recognize, and truly look at the world around us, including the animals and nature with whom we share it. Best in Show (Photography & Digital) – Jyl Blackwell – “FATAL ATTRACTION” – digital painting

BIS-43-dp.-Jyl-Blackwell-FATAL-ATTRACTION-.bJyl is a retired professional photographer whose passion for photography has not retired! She is a freelance photo retoucher and has a love of Photoshop and digital art. Her art seeks to illuminate the unseen and express emotion through the blending and interplay of digital layers. Swirling layers of gradient pixels are put into motion and painted on the digital canvas. Sometimes these layers reside on their own and sometimes they are incorporated into photographic or digital collages.

Drawing from intuition and experience and thus extracting only those elements of color, line, and luminance that define the subject, she creates a unique vision of the world around us. Leaning toward abstraction to simplify her vision, she allows the viewer to reflect upon his or her emotional response to each element or the entirety of the piece.

Jyl’s art can be found in galleries and wineries in the Seattle area. Her work has been seen in magazines and has been awarded in multiple international competitions.

Best in Show (3 Dimensional) – Robert Obier – “ICON XRX” – mixed media on wood

BIS-1-3d.-Robert-Obier-ICON-XRX-.bThroughout the ages the master builders of the great civilizations sought to discover an organizational discipline that could provide the blueprint for achieving integrity, order and beauty in the architecture of the built world. No matter the stylistic distinctions of time, at the most elemental level, the all-consuming and elusive pursuit was to understand and to apply the laws and the principals of unity – the most fundamental tenet of creation.

Many years and many dreams have dominated my quest to unravel the secrete of this unifying code and to create a world of architecture that would fulfill the vision of my inspiration. A mysterious and sacred place. A world of order and beauty that would never come to be. An unknown and unbuilt world. Existing only in the depths of my imagination.

Now, through my art, I strive to capture the mystery of this unseen world to present, through an abstract lens, relics of what never was and fragments of what might have been. The work emerges from a doctrine, both ancient and timeless, existing only for a moment and yet perhaps forever. This place I call – The Stuff of Dreams
